Guernsey's intellectual property office re-launches website
The Bailiwick of Guernsey Intellectual Property Office is undergoing a period of dramatic change in 2009 with, amongst other things, the implementation of on-line intellectual property services.
The Office has re-launched its website in response to these changes and the introduction of a modernised suite of Bailiwick intellectual property legislation. The combination of the legislation, the on-line services and the new website will meet the demands on the Island to provide a 21st century environment from which to protect and manage intellectual property assets.
Intellectual property is an integral part of the intangible assets of businesses and organisations. These intangible assets can include staff know-how, brand value and business processes and form over 70% of the value of corporate assets. However the value of intellectual property often can be unrecognised in small to medium sized enterprises and is not actively managed as a major contributor to corporate wealth or business profits.
This new website is the first step towards the provision of on-line intellectual property services and will be used to provide a great deal of the information that will help people to understand, identify and exploit intellectual property rights in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
John Ogier (pictured), Registrar of Intellectual Property commented ‘I am delighted to be able to announce the re-launched website. This is an important step in preparation for the new on-line services. The Intellectual Property Office will provide access to legislation and information through its new website. Staff are working towards the development of an international standard intellectual property environment and new world leading legislation as well as providing registration services tailored to local needs’.
