OGH Chef named Catering Student of the Year
Josh Phillips, Apprentice Chef at The Old Government House Hotel and Spa, has recently been named the College of Further Education’s Catering Student of the Year.
Senior lecturer at the College, Paul Wilson claims that “Out of every 1,000 chefs there is one like Josh who
is proud of his work and his food, is creative and a really nice bloke”.
An Alderney boy, Josh always knew the direction he would take when he left school and spent school holidays and weekends gaining as much catering experience and knowledge possible before joining The Old Government House Hotel and Spa as an Apprentice Chef in September 2008.
His position allows him to spend a day a week at the College of Further Education whilst, the rest of the time, gaining practical experience in his role within the kitchen brigade at The OGH.
Working under previous Executive Head Chef Jerome Barbancon, Josh has quickly become a rising star within the hotel’s kitchen. New Executive Head Chef, Clément Baris, is equally delighted to have Josh in his team and is keen to develop his talents still further.
“The great thing about Josh is that he thrives under pressure and really wants to learn – he should be very proud of what he has achieved”.
But ambitious Josh will not rest on his laurels. He is determined to work hard and to get to the top of his profession one day and, those that know him, don’t doubt that he will!
