In 2010 Herm Island embarked on a Social Media Campaign using Social Media Consultant Jo Porritt of Brand Guardian. Relatively conservative Islands such as the Channel Islands would strike marketers as a fertile base to launch progressive digital campaigns. But it has happened in the Channel Islands and it started on the paradise Island of Herm with a Hotelier, the usual round of client demands of greater reach for reducing budgets.

A few months on the response has been exceptional and Island Director and White House Hotelier reports to IFCfeed on the responses to date.

Throughout the beginning of 2010, Herm Island has progressively engaged in Social Media Marketing in order to reach target customers that have been attracted to the Island in the past with more traditional methods of advertising.

Although perception decree's that Social Media forums such as Facebook and Twitter are the playground for younger people, it is clear that there has been a significant shift in demographic using these networks in order to research and keep in touch with products and services, along with retaining their friendly relationships all in one place.

Herm's fan page has attracted predominantly female fans aged between 25 and 44. An ideal decision making demographic for family holidays and days away.

These are truly exciting forums, and the real value will not be demonstrated until the season is in full swing.

Constant positive interaction with our brand advocates will continue to strengthen other marketing that we carry out, as the fans themselves are able to positively encourage further visitors to the Island as they will be linked with these social media forums from our website.

On the 8th April Jonathan spoke to BBC Radio Guernsey presenter Gary Burgess on the success of the campaign and by kind permission of the BBC you can download the sound clips of this very interesting interview below. Two part interview follows as MP3 download below.
