Renewal of Fishery Licence at Rocquaine Bay

The Commerce and Employment Department Sea Fisheries Section would like to invite any interested parties who have previous experience in operating a shellfish farm the opportunity to apply for a five year licence to operate the fishery area within Rocquaine Bay, North of Fort Grey.

This fishery area has been operating for over 20 years and has been successfully used for cultivating both mussels and oysters. The five year licence for this area is due to expire in July 2010 and the existing licensee no longer wishes to operate the site.

The shellfish farm is accessed via the slipway at Fort Grey and is positioned between Fort Grey and La Saline and is fully accessible at MLWS (Mean Low Water Springs).

Q. How do I apply for a Licence?

A. An application form along with an information sheet (which, can either be downloaded from the Sea Fisheries website or collected from the Commerce and Employment Departments building in Burnt Lane, St Martins) will need to be completed and submitted to the Sea Fisheries section before the 30th June 2010.

Q. Who can apply for a licence to operate this shellfish area?

A. Applications to operate this fishery is open to any interested parties who have previous experience in operating an inter-tidal fishery, although consideration will be given to parties with relevant fishing or fish farming experience.

*All applications will be matched against the criteria within the Sections fisheries legislation which states that before the Commerce and Employment Department issue a fishery licence the Department will consider the welfare of the fishing industry and of the persons engaged in it and the experience in fishery of the person making the application.

A. The Commerce and Employment Department will respond to all applicants following its decision in July 2010.
