GTA University Centre workshop tackles IT misuse
In a workshop to be held next month, the GTA University Centre, in conjunction with the Commerce and Employment Department, will take on the issue of IT misuse in the workplace.
The half-day workshop, which is aimed at HR professionals, employment lawyers and directors with strategic responsibility for risk, will be led by three expert tutors.
From international legal firm Eversheds, employment law partner, Anthony Rees, and media team senior associate, Katherine Livngston, will draw on their experiences, advising clients on the issues raised by disaffected employees posting comments on blogs and social networking sites as well as reputation management and damage limitation.
In addition, delegates will hear from Tony Dearsley, a computer forensics manager who has specialised in the forensic examination of computers and the production of their evidence in court since 1993.
Kate Winters, programmes manager at the GTA University Centre, feels that a workshop of this nature is long overdue.
‘As information becomes evermore accessible, and communication devices evermore portable, the potential for abuse is significant. Without proper procedures in place, employers find it difficult to tackle the misuse of electronic communications. This workshop is in response to this threat and is designed to make management aware of the measures they can take to minimise risk,’ she said.
Topics to be covered include: Monitoring employee use of IT, Whistle blowing and Cyber-bullying.
Two workshops will take place in the Harry Bound Room of Les Cotils on Friday 9 July. Places are priced at £95 each and delegates can choose between the morning session from 9am to 12noon and the afternoon session from 1pm to 4pm.
