Chief Minister Lyndon Trott will reveal his thoughts on the impact of the UK General Election result for Guernsey at a lunchtime event on Friday 7 May.

Such a close result is expected that a formal result for who governs Britain may not be confirmed by the time the ‘Question Time’-style discussion begins, featuring a panel of expert speakers to address a business audience.

But organisers Image Group and the Chamber of Commerce are confident that there will still be much to talk about, whether a party does hold sway in Westminster, or if two parties may have to strike a deal to form a government.

The panel includes:

• Deputy Trott, who has developed relationships with many key figures at Westminster in recent years and will have to work closely with the new government
• Recently-elected Chamber President Julian Winser, who will offer a business perspective on the result
• Advocate StJohn Robilliard from Ozannes, who will provide a constitutional and legal view
• Tax and trust expert Paul Schreibke from Intertrust Reads Private Clients, who will examine the tax implications of a new power in Westminster

Former deputy Jonathan Le Tocq will chair the panel, which will be prepared to answer questions from the floor.

James Falla, Senior Account Director at Image PR, who arranged the event, said: ‘We in Guernsey do not get a vote in the Westminster Election, but there’s still plenty for our political watchers and the business community to talk about.

‘On 7 May all the speculation will be over and we’ll be considering whether it will be business as usual for us, or a completely new approach required to deal with a new government with new ideas. Either way, I’m sure it will be interesting.’

Limited places for the Image/Chamber of Commerce 2010 Election Special on Friday 7 May are available from the offices of the Chamber of Commerce, priced £12. The event takes place in the Colborne Room at the Old Government House Hotel, starting at 12.30pm.
