Guernsey students to attend IoD Annual Convention
Three lucky students will be rubbing shoulders with some of Britain’s most influential business leaders and politicians at the Royal Albert Hall this week.
Having attended the local Institute of Directors debate last autumn, three students went on to write blogs giving an account of the evening, which won them their places on the all expenses paid trip to London, to attend the national Institute of Directors Annual Convention, courtesy of De Putron Fund Management.
Kirsty Jackson of Blanchelande Girls’ College, James Robson of Elizabeth College and Alex Masterton of the Grammar School will also be accompanied by Alistair Kent, head of trading at De Putron Fund Management.
‘The Institute of Directors Convention is a major annual event for Britain’s top business leaders. This really is a fantastic opportunity for the students to hear from some of the country’s most influential people. With the UK General Election just round the corner as well, it will be particularly interesting to hear what the speakers from the political world have to say’ said Mr Kent.
This year’s convention boasts an impressive line-up, with speakers to include Stephen Green, the group chairman of HSBC, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Vince Cable, the Liberal Democrats’ shadow chancellor.
It is hoped that the students will return to Guernsey feeling inspired by the Convention.
‘These students have already expressed a keen interest in finance, economics and politics and as such, we have every reason to believe that they will go on to be the business leaders of the future. This Convention will be a great introduction to that world’ said Mr Kent.
