Paul Meader to head up GIBA
Former Guernsey International Business Association vice-chairman, Paul Meader, has taken on the role of chair from Steve Le Page. Mr Meader will be in the role for two years and is joined by Alan Bougourd as vice-chairman.
‘Steve and I worked closely together as chair and vice-chair of Giba during what was a very interesting year for the finance sector. I am delighted to take on this role and to further represent the views of the island’s largest sector through communications with the chairs of the associations that make up Giba,’ said Mr Meader.
Giba is the umbrella body for eight associations that represent the various sectors within finance which employs a quarter of the local workforce. The following is a list of those associations and their chairmen:
AGB (Association of Guernsey Banks) – Steve Watts
GIFA (Guernsey Investment Funds Association) – Grant Cameron
GAT (Guernsey Association of Trustees) – Jon Heaume
GICMA (Guernsey Insurance Company Management Association) – Dominic Wheatley
GIMSA (Guernsey Investment Managers and Stockbrokers Association) – Richard Bellis
GIMA (Guernsey Independent Members Association) – Stephen Ainsworth
Guernsey Bar – John Greenfield
GSCCA (Guernsey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants) – Rob Hutchinson
Giba exists to provide a forum for the member associations to consider the interests of Guernsey's international finance industry and how they may be promoted. Its members also work with the island authorities to further the interests of the industry by informing and educating where necessary.
‘In recent months we have also acted as the internal voice for the industry – the external messages being covered by Guernsey Finance and our politicians. Through a series of events and articles for the States and islanders we have aimed to “demystify” the industry not just for those who work outside of it but also for those who work in different sectors,’ said Mr Meader.
