The Scrutiny Committee has set up a Facebook account to improve its engagement with the public.

Scrutiny Chairman, Deputy Barry Brehaut, says “The Committee is working towards a higher public profile to raise awareness of the scrutiny process and ultimately to engage the public in constructive challenge of government policy and services to the community”

“A key part of this objective will be the public Scrutiny Review meetings that the Committee aims to hold over the next two years on subjects such as the Planning service, School Exclusions and Housing.”

“A major benefit of Facebook is that it is an easy way for members of the public to opt in to receiving information about the work of the Committee and the events and consultation processes with which they might wish to become involved.”

Facebook members who wish to become a ‘friend’ of ‘Scrutiny Guernsey’ will see news updates on the Committee’s activities and receive invitations to events, such as the Planning Service Review meeting on the 4th March.

The Committee has limited resources and so will be closely monitoring the value that it gets from the Facebook account and how much staff time it takes to administer it.
